James R. Dowell (search for this): article 5
Resignation of a Telegraph Superintendent.
--Mr. James R. Dowell, General Superintendent of the Southern Telegraph Company, has resigned that position.
It is no idle compliment to this most efficient officer to say that his loss will be regretted by the public at large.
For many years he has been to the telegraph system at the South what a good Postmaster-General is to the mails; and under his administration we have had hardly a cause for complaint.
We hope that his long and extensive experience is not, at this time particularly, to be lost from his profession, and that his absence from it may be of short duration.
