Dadūchus
(
δᾳδοῦχος). A torch-bearer. A name applied to the person
who, on the fifth day of the Eleusinian Mysteries, led the initiated, torch in hand, to the
temple of Demeter, in memory of her wanderings with a lighted torch in search of
Persephoné (q.v.). See
