BUCIUMI
Salaj, Romania.
Roman camp of
the 2d-3d c. on the road between Porolissum (Moigrad)
and Bologa. Cohors I Augusta Iturneorum sagittariorum
and then Cohors II Nervia milliaria Pacensis were stationed here. The camp (167 x 134 m) is well-preserved
and has been systematically investigated. It had two
construction phases: one in earth and one in stone. The
circuit wall had trapezoidal corner towers and an external ditch. The bastions of the gates are circular except
those of the praetoria gate, on the SE side, which are
quadrilateral. Inside the camp the praetorium, the principia, two horrea, and three barracks were found.
The rich and varied archaeological, numismatic, and
epigraphic material are on display at the Museum of
History and Art in Zalău.
