CAURIUM
(Coria) Cáceres, Spain.
Town
on the Alagón river W of Plasencia, mentioned by Pliny
(
4.118) and Ptolemy (2.5.6). Considerable stretches of
its Roman walls survive: the towers are square and the
perimeter ca. 1 km. The ashlar is granite in large blocks.
There are four gates, those on the S and E the most important. Little of the aqueduct survives, but sculptural
and epigraphic remains have been found.
