RAJAT
Commune of Murol, Puy-de-Dôme, France.
The plateau of Rajat constitutes the summit
of a spur located N of Murol. It has an altitude of
1,084 m and dominates the valleys around it by ca.
200 m. The ruins of a small hilltop temple of Celtic type
were excavated near the end of the plateau in 1954-57.
The cella is open to the E and measures 4.40 sq. m.
Around it there was a flagged area. However, the wall
which must have enclosed this area has not been
found around its entire circumference. A test pit under
the beton floor of the cella revealed no older remains.
A bronze statuette of Harpokrates has been found in a
small building next to the cella. Coins range from a
small Gallic piece (Epad) to Arcadius. The artifacts
are kept in the town hall at Murol.
