CORDYLE
CORDYLE (
Κορδύλη) or PORTUS CHORDYLE (
Plin. Nat. 6.4), a place on the coast of Pontus, 40 or 45 stadia east of Hieron Oros or
Yoros. (Arrian, p. 17; Anon. p. 13.) Hamilton (
Researches, &c. vol. i. p. 248) identifies it with
Akjah Káleh, a ruined fort on a rocky promontory, half-way between Platana and Cape
Yoros: “it possesses a small open roadstead, called by the Turks a liman or port, to the east of the promontory.” The name occurs in the Table in the form Cordile.
There appears to be some confusion in Ptolemy (
5.6) about this place. [
