--A special dispatch to the
Lynchburg Virginia says that the
Yankee cavalry lately overtook the mail carriers at
Pattonsville, in Scott county, and captured two carriers and the mail.
They also made prisoners of twenty citizens, including the postmaster.
Two men were killed by the marauders.
One of the carriers escaped and made his way to
Abingdon.
Pattonsville is on Price's Turnpike and Cumberland Gap road, sixty miles west of
Abingdon and forty-five from
Bristol.
The Lynchburg
Republican says the
Yankees also captured a wagon load of muskets in
Scott, and secured a considerable amount of plunder.
In Lee county they robbed
Capt. Daniel Dickinson of everything he possessed, and made great efforts to arrest him, but he made his escape.
