--In the First Market on yesterday supplies were limited, and still held at as high if not higher prices than heretofore. Potatoes (Irish) were selling at $32 per bushel; sweet do., at the same figure; cabbages, from 25 to $1; hominy, 75 cents per quart; turnips, $6 to $6.50 per bushel, or 50 cents per bunch, of five; salsify, 50 cents per bunch, of three to five; beef $1 to $1.50 for choice pieces. Mr. Lindsay is still selling for prices varying from 75 to $1. --Mutton, $1.50; pork, $2.25 to $2.50; sausage, $2.50. On to-day there will no doubt be a larger supply, but we look for no diminution of prices unless Congress shall pass a tax act, retiring a good deal of the money now in circulation, when the present value of all articles will decline. Until that "good time coming"shall have arrived, many will have to live on shortened means, hoping for a speedy issue.
