Now, generally speaking, you will find that no one of the so-called sophists has accumulated a great amount of money, but that some of them have lived in poor, others in moderate circumstances. The man who in our recollection laid up the most was Gorgias of Leontini.1 He spent his time in Thessaly when the Thessalians were the most prosperous2 people in Hellas; he lived a long life3 and devoted himself to the making of money;
