ἀντήλιος , ον, (ἀντί, ἥλιος)
A.opposite the sun, i.e. looking east, S.Aj. 805, E.Ion1550; δαίμονες ἀντήλιοι statues of gods which stood in the sun before the house-door, A.Ag.519, cf. E.Fr.538.
2. of the moon, reflecting the sun's rays, AB403 (ἀνθ-), cf. Suid.: hence metaph., imitation, reflection, Theopomp.Hist.367 (ἀνθ-).
II. ἀντήλια, τά, = παρήλια, parhelia, Suid., cf. Men.511.
2. screens or parasols, Eust.1281.3; also, blinkers on horses' bridles, Poll.10.54 (ἀνθ-), Eust.1562.39.—The Ion. form ἀντήλιος is always used in Trag.; ἀνθήλιος first in Theopomp. l.c., cf. Ph.1.656, Placit.3.6.
