προστυγχάνω ,
A.obtain one's share of, and generally, obtain, “προστυχόντι τῶν ἴσων” S.Ph.552; “ἐμοῦ κολαστοῦ προστυχών” Id.El.1463: c. dat., meet with, hit upon, Pl.Lg.844b, 893e, Plt.262b, Sph.246b.
2. of events, befall one, “κακότας π. τινί” Pi.Fr.42.5.
3. = πρόσειμι, φασι τῷ ἐμβρύῳ προστυγχάνειν ἕτερον χιτῶνα Sor.1.58.
4. abs., ὁ προστυγχάνων the first person one meets, anybody, Pl.Lg.914b; πᾶς ὁ π. ib. 808e; “οἱ αἰεὶ -τυγχάνοντες” Th.1.97; “ὁ προστυχὼν Φρύξ” Herod.3.36: so in neut., τὰ προστυχόντα ξένια whatever fare there was, E.Alc.754; ἐρρύφεον τὸ προστυχόν anything that came handy, Hp.Acut.39; but τὸ προστυχόν casualness, Pl.Ti.34c; πράξει τὸ π. ἑκάστοτε will act offhand, Id.Lg.962c; ἐκ τοῦ προστυχόντος offhand, ex tempore, Plu.2.150d, 407b; so κατὰ τὸ π. D.H.7.1.
