A.lookout-place, in Hom. esp. a hill-top, “σκοπιὴν εἰς παιπαλόεσσαν” Od.10.97; “ἀπὸ σκοπιῆς εἶδεν” Il.4.275, Od.4.524; “ἥμενος ἐν σκοπιῇ” Il.5.771; ὀπτῆρας δὲ κατὰ σκοπιὰς ὤτρυνα νέεσθαι each to his lookout-place, Od.14.261; ἄγγελος . . ἀπὸ τηλαυγέος φαινόμενος ς. Thgn.550; watch-tower, Hdt.2.15; “ὥσπερ ἀπὸ ς. μοι φαίνεται” Pl.R. 445c.
