ἀστρα^π-ή , ἡ,
A.= ἀστεροπή, στεροπή,fiash of lightning, lightning, “βροντὴ καὶ ἀ.” Hdt.3.86, cf. X.HG7.1.31, etc.; “βροντὴ δ᾽ ἐρράγη δι᾽ ἀστραπῆς” S.Fr.578, cf. Pl.Ti.68a, Cra.409c, Arist.Mete.369b6; personified, as subject of painting, Plin.HN35.96, Philostr.Im. 1.14: freq. in pl., lightnings, “τὰς ἀ. τε καὶ κεραυνίους βολάς” A.Th. 430; “τᾶν πυρφόρων ἀστραπᾶν κράτη νέμων” S.OT201 (lyr.).

3. metaph., ἀστραπήν τιν᾽ ὀμμάτων flashing of the eyes, S.Fr.474; “βλέπων ἀστραπάς” Ar.Ach. 566; ἐκτυφλοῦν τιν᾽ ἀστραπὴ [εἰμί] Antiph.195.4, cf. Ach.Tat.6.6.
