I.the capital of Lesbos, the birthplace of Sappho, Pittacus, Alcæus, and Diophanes, the orator, now Mytilini or Castro.— “Mytilene: laudabunt alii claram Rhodon, aut Mytilenen,Hor. C. 1, 7, 1; id.
