ἀνα-μάσσω : wipe off, μέγα ἔργον, σῇ κεφαλῇ ἀναμάξεις (fig. from the custom of murderers wiping off the bloody weapon upon the head of the slain, as if to divert their guilt upon the victim himself; hence, here = ‘shalt atone for with thine own life’ (cf. Od. 22.218), Od. 19.92†.
