Ambu'lia, Ambu'lii

and AMBU'LIUS (Ἀμβουλία, Ἀμβούλιοι, and Ἀμβούλιος), surnames under which the Spartans worshipped Athena, the Dioscuri, and Zeus. (Paus. 3.13.4.) The meaning of the name is uncertain, but it has been supposed to be derived from διαβάλλω, and to designate those divinities as the delayers of death.
