Ambu'lia, Ambu'lii
and AMBU'LIUS (
Ἀμβουλία,
Ἀμβούλιοι, and
Ἀμβούλιος), surnames under which the Spartans worshipped Athena, the Dioscuri, and Zeus. (
Paus. 3.13.4.)
The meaning of the name is uncertain, but it has been supposed to be derived from
διαβάλλω, and to designate those divinities as the delayers of death.
