Aristander

（*)Ari/standros), the most celebrated soothsayer of Alexander the Great. He survived the king. (Arrian, Arr. Anab. 3.2, 4.4, &c.; Curt. 4.2, 6, 13, 15, 7.7; Plut. Alex. 25; Aelian, Ael. VH 12.64; Artemid. 1.31, 4.24.) The work of Aristander on prodigies, which is referred to by Pliny (Plin. Nat. 17.25. s. 38 ; Elenchus, lib. viii. x. xiv. xv. xviii.) and Lucian (Philopat. 100.21), was probably written by the soothsayer of Alexander.

William Smith. A Dictionary of Greek and Roman biography and mythology. London. John Murray: printed by Spottiswoode and Co., New-Street Square and Parliament Street. In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
