Leo'nidas

（*Lewni/das), physician who was a native of Alexandria, and belonged to the sect of the Episynthetici (Pseudo-Galen, Introd. c. 4. vol. xiv. p. 684; Cael. Aurel. De Morb. Acut. 2.1, p. 75). As he is quoted by Caelius Aurelianus (l.c.), and himself quotes Galen (apud Aet. 4.2, 11, p. 688), he probably lived in the second and third centuries after Christ. Of his writings, which appear to have chiefly related to surgical subjects, nothing remains but some fragments preserved by Aetius (pp. 241, 397, 686, 687, 688, 689, 691,692, 736, 741,743, 799, 800, 802) and Paulus Aegineta (4.59,p. 534, 6.32, 44, 64, 67, 78, pp. 562, 569, 578, 580, 585), from which we may judge that he was a skilful practitioner.

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
