Salo'me
4. Daughter of Herodias by Herod Philip, son of Herod the Great, was the maiden who pleased Herod Antipas by her dancing, and obtained from him the execution of John the Baptist.
She was twice married-1st to her uncle Philip, the tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, who died childless; and 2d, to her cousin Aristobulus, son of Herod king of Chalcis [ARISTOBULUS, No. 6.], by whom she had three sons (Matt. 14.3-12 ; Mark, 6.17-29;
J. AJ 18.5. ยงยง 2, 4).
The legendary account of her death, as given by Nicephorus in his
Ecclesiastical History (1.20), is a very clumsy invention.
