Orton, Edward 1829-

Geologist; born in Deposit, N. Y., March 9, 1829; graduated at Hamilton College in 1848; State geologist of Ohio since 1869; president of the Ohio State University, 1873-81. He is the author of Geology of Ohio; Petroleum, in United States Geological reports, etc.
