Matrimony and money.

--The Lowell Courier says, that a day or two since a well-dressed man called at the city treasurer's office and desired to look over the tax list. He was directed up stairs to the assessor's room. Arriving there he requested to see the chairman alone for a few minutes, which request having been complied with, he made known to that officer that he was an afflicted widower in pursuit of a wife. He was not over burdened with ‘"this world's goods,"’ and if with a wife he could get some funds, it would not come amiss. He therefore wanted the chairman to make out a list of the unmarried ladies for him, who were possessed of some means of their own, that he might know among whom to ‘"circulate,"’ with a double view of matrimony and money. The official being very busy, was unable to comply with the gentleman's request, and he is doubtless still in the market.
