"Fire-arms and other Weapons."

General orders No. 31, from headquarters of the forces, dated at Richmond, July 9th, 1861, state that ‘"the proper side-arms only will be worn out of camp."’ All fire-arms and other weapons will be left behind, and the commanding officers will require their men to report to the guard on leaving and returning.

If the general order above referred to had been faithfully observed and respected, there would not have been so many difficulties reported to our courts; so many persons injured; nor so many soldiers confined in jail, who made too free use of ‘"fire-arms and other weapons,"’ which they were prohibited from wearing out of camp.
