"No Admittance, except on Business."

--Every culprit who enters the portals of the city jail, sees this strange announcement in large letters, yet finds himself compelled to ‘"go in,"’ even though he feels that he has no business there. A rash and importunate individual named James Hogan went down there the other day, and got as mad as fury when the jailor pointed to the sign and told him he couldn't come in. He bombarded the walls for a while with rocks, but finding it impossible to create a breach there, went off and committed a breach of the peace by getting uproariously drunk, and the Mayor yesterday gave him a free ticket of admission.
