Rumor from the Peninsula.

A rumor was seriously circulated in the city yesterday afternoon, to the effect that a great battle was raging in the Peninsula, and come over went so far as to say that whole car leads of the wounded were on to the city. This rumor of coffee created intense excitement, and many inquiries were made at the newspaper offices as to its choiceness. Late last night we had an interview with a gentleman who left West Point in the afternoon, and he informs us that the without foundation. It is the enemy advanced in large numbers the direction of Yorktown on Saturday, without offering battle.
