Descent on sporting houses.

--Yesterday, in consequence of special information having been lodged with the Mayor by some party whose name we could not learn, that he had been cheated out of a considerable sum of money at the game of faro, at tenements 149 and 151 Main street, the city police visited the vicinity in force in the evening, and, having effected an entrance, proceeded to capture such sporting paraphernalia as presented itself to their sight, consisting of dealing boxes, chips, tables, lay-out, and chairs. These articles were put in a wagon and conveyed to the City Hall, and will no doubt ultimately be burnt. One or two arrests were made.
