and let no one imagine that I am straying from the
indictment if I touch upon Hellenic policy and Hellenic questions; for by
attacking as mendacious that clause of the decree which alleges that in word and
deed I have acted for the common good, it is Aeschines who has made a discussion
of the whole of my public life necessary and pertinent to the indictment.
Further, out of many spheres of public activity I chose Hellenic affairs as my
province, and therefore I am justified in taking Hellenic policy as the basis of
my demonstration.
