Morris, William Hopkins 1825-

Military officer; born in New York City, April 22, 1825; graduated at the United States Military Academy in 1851; commissioned brigadier-general of volunteers in 1862; and brevetted major-general in 1865. He designed a repeating carbine in 1869. His publications include A system of Infantry tactics; and Tactics for Infantry, armed with breech-loading or magazine rifles. He died in North Long Branch, N. J., Aug. 26, 1900.
