Olney, Jeremiah 1750-1812

Military officer; born in Providence, R. I., in 1750; was made lieutenant-colonel at the beginning of the Revolutionary War (afterwards made colonel), and was often the chief officer of the Rhode Island forces. He fought conspicuously at Red Bank, Springfield, Monmouth, and Yorktown, and after the war he was collector of the port of Providence, and president of the Rhode Island Society of Cincinnati. He died in Providence, R. I., Nov. 10, 1812.
