Wright, Frances 1795-1852

Reformer; born in Dundee, Scotland, Sept. 6, 1795; travelled in the United States in 1818-20 and again in 1825; and purchased in the latter year 2,000 acres of land in Tennessee, where she established a colony of emancipated slaves. She lectured extensively on slavery and established what were called “Fanny Wright” societies. She published Views on Society and manners in America, etc. She died in Cincinnati, O., Dec. 14, 1852.
