Strange Parricide

--A Son Kills his Father to Avenge His Mother's Wrongs. --The Louisville Democrat, of the 21st, says:

‘ A man named Peter Smith was shot yesterday morning, on the Jeffersonville ferry boat, by his illegitimate son, Francis Marlon Smith. The young man states that the former had seduced his mother forty years ago, and brought her to a career of prostitution. He states that his mother, on her death bed about a year ago, told him of these facts, and told him to avenge her. The young man first stabbed him, and then shot him in the back of the head, the ball coming out above the eye, literally blowing his brains out. He died immediately. Peter Smith was well known as a wine grower, and resided near Utica, Indiana, and is connected by marriage with respectable families in this city. He was highly respected by a large circle of friends. Mr. Samuel Patterson arrested the murderer, and conducted him to jail, where he reiterated the facts above stated.
