There was yesterday a more than usual absence of news from
Gen. Lee's army, and the movements of the enemy under
Meade, We could only learn that
Gen. Lee has his army concentrated — where we need not state — and that
Meade's headquarters were at
Warrenton, Fauquier county.
From the
Valley, which has been almost entirely evacuated by our troops, we have no news.
The report that the enemy had appeared in heavy force in
Stafford county, is not confirmed by the latest intelligence we have from
Fredericksburg.
A gentleman arrived in this city yesterday afternoon who left Stafford Court House late on Tuesday evening. He reports that when he left that point it was understood that there was no enemy of any consequence in the county.
The only demonstration that had been made in the neighborhood was by a small force of Yankee cavalry, which came down as far as Heartwood Church, which is on the road leading from
Fredericksburg to Catlett's Station, in
Fauquier county.
The enemy are believed to be along this road in heavy force, from the railroad to the
Stafford county line.
