The Senate was called to order at 12 o'clock. Prayer by Rev. Dr. Peterkin, of St. James's (Episcopal) Church.
Messrs. Hunter, Logan, Frayser, Armstrong, Neeson, Lynch and Bruce were appointed the joint committee on salt.
Resolutions of inquiry were read and passed inquiring into the expediency of placing at the disposal of the Governor a fund of--thousand dollars, to be expended in the procurement of necessary articles of subsistence, the same to be sold to families, or to the cities, towns and counties, under suitable limitations, for cost and charges; inquiring into the expediency of immediately reporting a bill providing the necessary compensation for members of the General Assembly; inquiring into the expediency of repealing "the act for the protection of sheep; and to increase the growth of wool" ; instructing the Committee on Railroads and Internal Improvements to inquire into the expediency of constructing a railroad from Lynchburg to Danville.
