Interesting from Mississippi. Jackson, Miss., April 6. --Gen Chalmers, on Friday, drove in the enemy's pickets within five miles of Memphis, killing two and capturing one. Fort Pemberton dates of the 5th are received — The enemy were embarking the previous night, and on that morning were in rapid retreat. We shelled their camps and transports, and made a reconnaissance from our left flank, alarming them much. We fired into a transport filled with troops disabling the boat. A special to the Appeal, dated Senatobia, 6th, says the enemy were out in strong force yesterday, but have all gone back.
From Tennessee. Chattanooga, April 6. --Gen. Morgan was attacked by the Federal, at Liberty, on Friday, and was driven back to Snow's Hill, where he held his position, and the enemy retreated. Our troops, under Col. Smith, were repulsed at Woodbury, on Saturday, and fell back to within 12 miles of McMinnville, Loss, one killed and eight prisoners. [second Dispatch.] Chattanooga, April 6. --The enemy advanced on Woodbury and McMinnvills, and were outflanked by our forcto Snow's Hill, where he held his position, and the enemy retreated. Our troops, under Col. Smith, were repulsed at Woodbury, on Saturday, and fell back to within 12 miles of McMinnville, Loss, one killed and eight prisoners. [second Dispatch.] Chattanooga, April 6. --The enemy advanced on Woodbury and McMinnvills, and were outflanked by our forces and retired. A column of Federal 15,000 strong is advancing on Columbia. A battle considered imminent before the week closes.
From Gen Pegram's command. Knoxville, April 6. --Parties from Kentucky report that Gen. Pegram's command was attacked two miles beyond Somerset, on Monday, 24th ult., by an over whelming Federal force of infantry and cavalry. After a desperate hand-to-hand fight Gen. Pegram fell back six miles, the enemy not pursuing. The loss on both sides was heavy. The Government agent brought out a large lot of cattle.
Movements of Banke's Army. Jackson, April 6. --New Orleans reports of the 1st inst. say that Banks crossed with 10,000 men at Donalsonville, and has gone down the Bayon Pisquemine to reinforce Henzel and attack the Bayon Teche country.
The enemy at Corinth. Okolona, April 6. --The Yankees at Corinth are preparing for a movement — either a raid or an evacuation. The cutlers are selling their entire stock preparatory to leaving.
