Attempt at murder with an "Infernal Machine." Pittsburg, Pa., Feb. 11. --There was a diabolical attempt to destroy the family of Augustus Hoevier, a well known citizen of Laurenceville, by an "infernal machine," Saturday night. The machine was placed on the window sill, and fired by means of a fuse.--The whole front of the building was shattered by the explosion, which was as loud as the discharge of ordnance. Several bullets struck in different parts of the room in which the Hoevler family were sleeping, but all miraculously escaped injury. There is no clue to the perpetrator of the flendish act.
Marine Disasters. Norfolk, Feb. 11. --Schooner Grace Caroline, of New Haven, was wrecked off Smith's Point yesterday. Her Captain and seven of the crew have arrived. Charleston, Feb. 11. --The pilot boat, N. Y. Leitch, has just reached the city with a seaman picked up by a skiff, who says he belonged to the brig Jas. Madison, of Baltimore, which sailed from Attakapas on the 2d inst.--She was wrecked on Stone Shoals, and all except himself lost. Marine Disasters. The whaler Massachusetts. New York Feb. 11. --The whaler Massachusetts, on the night of Dec. 5th,lost sight of the captain and boat's crew of eighteen men, who had started in pursuit of a sperm whale. The ship cruised about for several days, but concluding that the boat had been lost, she put into Rio, on Dec. 14th.The boat arrived safely at Santos on the 10th, having been five days without provisions.
