Dressor's and Schwartz's batteries were captured during the action, but the Eighteenth Illinois, with clubbed muskets, recovered. Dressor's battery, while the Thirty-fifth recovered that of Captain Schwartz. Confederate loss. It is impossible to state the precise extent of the captures, everything being in such confusion within the fortress. The 56th Regt. Virginia volunteers --The above regiment comprises a part of General Floyd's brigade, and was in the severe fight at Fort Donelson, in Tennessee. For the satisfaction of the relatives and friends of the members, who reside mostly in Virginia, we have to state that a telegraphic dispatch was received in this city on Saturday from a member, by Col. W. D. Stuart, giving the gratifying information that the entire command was safe, and had escaped from the Hessians.

falling back on the 18th inst., before a superior force, to Boston Mountain. A fight occurred at Pratt's Store on the 18th, in which McRae's, McNary's and Heber's regiments were engaged. The enemy was repulsed. Our loss at the Fort Donelson fight during the four days was 1,600, and the enemy's loss 4,000. Late on Saturday night a council of war was held, and it was determined to surrender the fort. Gen. Buckner was left to make it known to the enemy. Gen Pillow and staff and Gen. Floyd, with 800 of his brigade, went to Clarksville on Sunday morning. Gen. Buckner remained with our army at the fort, and 12,000 capitulated on Sunday. It is believed that Nashville has been evacuated, and our army has fallen back, but to what point is not known. [Second Dispatch.] Memphis, Feb. 21. --Federal gunboats went up the Tennessee river to Eastport, Miss., and seven miles of Inka to-day, but returned this afternoon. Runaway. --A negro boy by the name of Floyd, had been staying with his young master at Evansport, and was taken sick and started home with a man by was taken sick and started home with a man by the name of Dr. H. H. Herst, and the train left him at Burksville, Va. The said boy is about 35 years of age, dark complexion, about 5 feet 8 or 10 inches high.--His general weight is about 150 pounds.
