Later from the North. Fredericksburg, Jan. 8. --The New York Herald and Philadelphia Inquirer, of the 6th, were received to-day by flag of truce. Rosecrans's official dispatch to the War Department gives an accounted the fight at Murfreesboro', which, he says, ended on Saturday in a total defeat of the rebel army, and their disorderly flight to Tullahoma. The weakness arising from this and the loss of artillery, manifestly compelled General Rosecrans to act on the defensive until he could reorganize his troops and make up for the loss of men and material, by reinfrtion of the afternoon both sides spent in sharp skirmishing and manŒuvering for position.
