The Fourth brigade, under Colonel Deshler, was ordered to Arkansas Post at the mouth of the Arkansas river, and with Colonel Garland's brigade, composed of his regiment (Sixth infantry) and those of Colonels Wilkes (Twenty-fourth cavalry) and Gillespie (Twenty-fifth cavalry), were captured by the Federal forces, aided by their gunboats. After their exchange, in May, 1863, they did service east of the Mississippi river. The other three brigades constient to Tennessee, where he afterward commanded a brigade. ilton has in operation, near Melrose, in Nacogdoches county, a wool carding machine. The Dallas farmers are busy putting in their wheat. Larger crops than ever will be sown this fall. Col. A Nelson, of Bosque county, returned here on Friday evening last, bringing down some of the companies of his infantry regiment, who are to be posted at Virginia Point, where, we understand, the Colonel will have command. The Rev. Dr. George W. Charter, President of Soule University; Rev. Dr. F. C. Wilkes, of Texas, and the editor of the New Orleans Christian Advocate, also of Texas formerly, have authority from the Secretary of War to raise a regiment of cavalry "for the war." The regiment is now being raised. The Houston Telegraph, of the 25th, has the following: Freestone county has appropriated $15,000 for the benefit of her troops, and she respectfully informs Old Abe she has three million more, if necessary.
