erves, it is because the accounts of the commanding officer are so obscure. This closes the account of the operations of the Navy in the sounds of North Carolina up to November 10th, 1862, at which time these waters were in charge of Commander H. K. Davenport. The sounds at this time were virtually in possession of the Federal Army and Navy, though the enemy would make useless raids along the banks of the rivers for the purpose of firing on the gun-boats.
