Pending the news in response to the demands of the British Government in regard to the Tient affair, the English papers have little to say. The London Morning Post says the Americans cannot possibly complain of the tenor of the dispatch to Lord Lyons. Movements were taking place between the Government and the authorities or Liverpool looking to the defence of that port. The English funds on the 20th of December were firmer, and had advanced one-half percent, chiefly owing to large in vestments. Various peace rumors were also instrumental in causing the rise. It was stated in England that Parliament will meet for the dispatch of business on the 14th or the 16th of January, which is some weeks earlier than usual.
