[5] Again, in the passage called the gifts of Penelope, for he represents the wooers, Eurymachus among them, offering her gifts, he says:—“And Eurymachus straightway brought a necklace of varied materials,
Of gold strung with pieces of amber, like the sun.
”Hom. Od. 18.295But Homer does not say that the necklace given to Eriphyle was of gold varied with stones. So probably the scepter is the only work of Hephaestus.
