II. trans., illuminate, “ἐλλάμπουσα ἀεὶ ἐλλάμπεται” Plot. 2.9.2, cf. Procl.in Ti.2.285 D., al.; “ὅταν [ἡ ψυχὴ] οἷον ἐλλάμψῃ πρὸς ἑαυτήν” Plot.6.4.16:—metaph. in Med., distinguish oneself, gain glory in or with, [“τῷ ἱππικῷ] ἐπεῖχε ἐλλάμψεσθαι” Hdt.1.80; “τῇσι νηυσί” Id.8.74.
