A.fighting before or in front: πρόμαχοι, οἱ, champions, “ἐν προμάχοισι φανέντα” Il.3.31; “πρώτοισιν ἐνὶ π. μιγέντα” Od.18.379, cf. Il.4.354; “προμάχων ἀν᾽ ὅμιλον” Pi.I.7(6).35.
b. as Adj., π. δόρυ the champion spear, i.e. of Heracles (v. Sch.), S.Tr.856 (lyr.).
2. fighting for, δόλεως, δόμων, A.Th.419(lyr.), 482 (lyr.); “θεσμῶν” IG3.638.
