III. metaph., deep, “βύθιόν τι καὶ δεινὸν φθέγγεσθαιPlu.Crass.23; “β. διάνοιαPh.1.194 (but ἕως ἂν λογισμὸς β. οἴχηται vanishes in the deep, ib.639, cf. Nonn.D.2.55); abysmal, Dam.Pr.106.
