φι^λοφρον-έομαι , fut. ήσομαι, Luc.Tim.48, etc.: aor. ἐφιλοφρονησάμην and -φρονήθην, v. infr.: (φιλόφρων):—
A.treat or deal with kindly, show favour to, τινα Hdt.3.50, Pl.Lg.738d, al.; “τὰ ἄγρια ὄντα τῶν θηρίωνGal.19.211; φ. τινὰ τῇ δικέλλῃ salute him with a blow of the mattock, Luc. l. c.; also “φ. περί τιναEpicur.Ep.2p.35U.; φιλοφρονήσασθαι ἀλλήλους greet or embrace one another, X.An.4.5.34 (so in aor. Pass. “φιλοφρονηθῆναιId.Cyr.3.1.40): metaph., ἤθη κακὰ φ. embrace bad habits, Pl.Lg.669c: also,
3. abs., to be of a kindly, cheerful temper, X.Ap.7; show a favour,τοῖς -ησαμένοις εὐχαριστεῖPhld.Herc.1251.22.
II. of things, cheer, please, be welcome to, τινας Pl.Lg.820e.
III. Act. φιλοφρονέων is found in D.S.27.4, but is f.l. for φίλα φρονέων in Od.16.17; so “φιλοφρονοῦσιPlu.2.750d (leg. φίλα φρονοῦσι), and φιλοφρονεῖν v.l. for φιλοπραγμονεῖν in Nicostr. ap. Stob.4.22.102; 2sg. imper. φιλοφρό[νει] is restd.in SIG1268 ii 2 (Miletopolis).
