καῦμα , ατος, τό, (καίω)
A.burning heat, esp. of the sun, καύματος ἔξ after sun-heat, Il.5.865, cf. Hes.Op.415,588, Alc.39, S.Ant.417, Epinic.1.10, etc.; πρὶν ἂν τὸ κ. παρέλθῃ the heat of the day, Pl.Phdr. 242a, cf. Ti.70d; “ἐὰν κ.Arist.Mete.342b10: freq. in pl., “ἡλίου τε καύμασινS.OC350, cf.
