ὄρειος , α, ον, also ος, ον Plu.2.965c, Luc.Demon.2, DDeor.20.3 ; Ep. οὔρειος :—
A.of or from the mountains, mountain-haunting,νύμφην οὐρείηνh.Merc.244, cf. Hes.Fr.198, Phoronis 2 ; this Ep. form is also used by Trag. and Com. in lyr., S.Ant.352, E.IT127,1126, Ph.806, Ar.Av.1098, etc.; but ὄρειος (which is not only Att. but Ion., v. infr.) in trim., as in A.Ag.497, S.Ph.937 ; Μήτηρ ὀρεία, of Rhea, Ar.Av.746 (lyr.); Ion. gen., “Μητρὸς ὈρέηςIG12(7).75 (Amorgos); Ion.acc. pl., “πέτρας ὀρείαςHippon.35.5 : in Prose, “ὄρειοί τινες . . νομῆςPl.Lg.677b, cf. Criti.109d ; opp. ἄγροικος, of animals, Arist.HA488b2 ; so “ὀρειότεροςOpp.C.2.22.
