A.that which enfolds, used in pl. in poet. periphrasis, τειχέων περιπτυχαί enfolding walls, E.Ph.1357 ; “δόμων” Ar.Av.1241 (parody of E.); Ἀχαιῶν ναύλοχοι π. their naval cloak or fence, E.Hec. 1015 ; πέπλων π. Trag.Adesp.91.
II. enfolding, embracing, “περιπτυχαῖσι δὴ χέρας προσαρμόσασα” E.Supp.815 (lyr.); ἐν ἡλίου περιπτυχαῖς in all that the sun embraces, i.e.all the world, Id.Ion 1516.
