πνῖγος , εος, τό,
A.choking, stifling, of the effects of heat, and so stifling heat, Hp.VM16, Aër.10, Ar.Av.726, 1091, Th.7.87, etc.; ἐν ἡλίῳ τε καὶ πνίγει, διὰ καύματός τε καὶ πνίγους, Pl.R.422c, 621a; “πνίγους ὄντος τὰ νῦν” Id.Lg.625b: in pl., Hp.Epid.3.2; “ἔν γε χειμῶσιν καὶ πνίγεσιν” Pl.Phlb.26a.
