I. intr., go about, range ouer, haunt, “νῆσον Αἴαντος πολεῖ” A.Pers.307; “τί σὺ τῇδε πολεῖς;” E.Alc.29 (anap.); “τίς ὅδ᾽ ἄρ᾽ ἀμφὶ μέλαθρον πολεῖ;” Id.Or.1270 (lyr.):—Med., “ὄψεις ἔννυχοι πολούμεναι ἐς παρθενῶνας” A.Pr.645 (dub., leg. πωλεύμεναι), cf. Ar.Av. 181: abs., πεφασμένως πολοῦνται Lex Sol. ap. Lys.10.19.
